Yessssssss !!!

Das Londoner Psychodelic-Folk-Pop-Quintett THE HANGING STARS veröffentlicht im Februar 2018 ihr zweites Album “Songs For Somewhere Else” (produziert von Brian O’Shaughnessey,
The Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine)

With their new album “Songs For Somewhere Else” (out in February 2018)
on Tour in Germany and Austria in April/May 2018  !!!
Booking: pop und die welt

The London-based psych-folk-pop-quintet The Hanging Stars will release their second album Songs For Somewhere Else in February 2018 on Crimson Crow.
And again: Taking cues from both sides of the Atlantic, the band around the former The See See-frontman Richard Olson  merges early 70s psychedelic folk and cosmic americana elements tastefully with ist unique way of songwriting and transforms These (old school) ingredients into an energized new sound for our times.

The new album follows the critically acclaimed 2016 debut Over The Silvery Lake, which received praise even from The Times as well as from the British pop-instance Uncut
and many others (see Reviews below!).

Nevertheless the new record is more varied than its predecessor and leads THE HANGING STARS into new territories, however still channeling a strong and (very) British (or better : British/Swedish?) melancholy grown from American soil. Inspired by Dennis Wilson to Gram Parsons and (the 1974) Neil Young, the band skillfully juggles elements out of gospel-soaked spirituals, jangle-pop, spaghetti western soundtracks (“Mean Old Man”), bossa nova classics
(” Water Song “) and prohibition blues (” Too Many Wired Hours “).

The recordings for Songs For Somewhere Else started already in 2015 and capture the development of a band who toured Europe in 2015/16 and played coveted support slots of well-known top acts, such as Teenage Fanclub, The Clientele and others.

The production of the album was again conducted with Brian O’Shaughnessey (The Clientele, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine) at the helm and getting plenty additional input from several guest musicians for instance on viola, flute and clarinet.

Touching themes like the fear of pain, death and failure, the songs strike a rich emotional chord. From the subtle melancholy of the album opener “On A Sweet Summer’s Day”, to the euphoric lead single “Honeywater” and the gorgeous instrumental “Djupsjön” (inspired by the magic of the giant Swedish pine forests of Olson’s childhood) the album is also emotionally a highly varied delight.

With its two-part lead vocals, the typically finger-picked guitars and the classic drum shuffle “For You My Blue Eyed Son”  (co-written by Patrick Ralla) surprises us as the most traditionally country song on the album, while “Dig A Hole” has the both rare and fascinating combination of being part shoegaze and part country, enhanced by gorgeous brass interludes, hinting at old miners brass bands of northern England.

With this album, THE HANGIN STARS usher the next phase of their musical development.
With Richard Olson’s smart lyrical observations and his honey-sweet vocals,
backed by the band’s creative musical arrangements, these aren’t just songs for somewhere else. These are songs for right here and right now! A perfect antidote to troubling times.

THE HANGING STARS are:
Richard Olson (Ex-The See See), songwriter, singer and guitarist.

Sam Ferman on bass, Paulie Cobra on drums, Patrick Ralla (also working together with Edwyn Collins) on guitars and keys and Joe Harvey-White on pedal steel and dobro.
